In the book "A Hare in the Elephants Trunk" Lions and Geography can and will brutally kill people. The Geography of Sudan and Ethiopia kills people extremely well, not to mention local wildlife other than Lions that can kill people such as Hyenas. Even the Soil in these two countries has a roundabout way of killing people. Also as a child everything would seem to be out to get you especially in the hard lands of South Sudan and Ethiopia and its not paranoia or being a "chicken" if something is actually out to get you. An example of this is on pages 63-65 when Jacob is awakened by the screaming of a boy being eaten by a lion one night and again the next night and these attacks the cause the group to decide to walk at night. Also Hyenas are a major problem as on page 51 Hyenas root around a village that Jacob, Monyroor are sleeping in and as they sleep Hyenas are eating recently deceased people proving how deadly and scary the local wildlife can be. Also the Geography of these lands is startling deadly. Its not deadly in the way that its going to kill you as a lion will or scare you as a hyena will, but it will deprive you of your most important survival tool, clean water. The lack of clean water in book two caused many boys to die weather from a lack of water in the hard arid land or from people having to drink dirty diseased water that killed them quicker than a lack of water would. The soil in Ethiopia at the refugee camp even kills people as they have to plant crops far away from the refugee camp as the soil is not good enough to make a living off of at the refugee camps. Thus the refugees have to walk far each day to work the crops which leaves them at risk for things such as heat stroke and even Lion and crocodile attacks. In conclusion these lands are extremely hostile in prosperous times let alone when a civil war is going on.
