In the book "A Hare In The Elephants Trunk" we meet Jacob, Jacob is a young, caring boy living in the worn torn country Southern Sudan. In the start of the book we see Jacob living happily in his village with his mom and his sisters. Jacob's village was untouched by the war. Jacobs village was very reliable on the cattle farms around there village. My first reaction to this book was that it seemed weird that war was itching away at this country buy there this village was unharmed. One day the war came to Jacobs village and Jacob and his nephew Monyoor had to leave there family behind and run away to be safe. "But Mama, my sisters-what about them? Jacob Cried, digging in his heels. I cannot leave with ought them!"(page 37)This reminded me of places in third world countries, we hear about bad things going on in different countries and how we here about refugees needing places to stay and how they have to leave friends and sometimes family just to be safe, how people have to leave there whole life behind all because of war! I was reminded of this while reading because one day your life could be great and you could be surrounded by loving people with food and clean water and the next day it could all go to crap. When i was reading the details of what Jacob was feeling and seeing when the bombs dropped by his village i could imagine hundreds of people crying and running not knowing what to do. I think as this book goes on Jacob will learn the importance of sticking to HIS beliefs, helping others and reminding himself that everyday he is alive he should be grateful for. - SK
