The Ending

This book did not end how i expected it to, i was not satisfied with the ending at all. For one, throughout the whole book People left Jacob from death to just plain leaving. And then he leaves his last friends he had left Oscar and Willy, like you should know how it feels for people to leave you all your life so don't do it to others. For be to be satisfied with the ending of this book Oscar and Willy would have had to be with Jacob. And throughout the whole book he was looking for his family and in the end he finds his uncle Daniel. What about his Mom or Sissy! But then you got to remember this is not a fiction story, everything that happened in this book actually happened. #reallife Just imagine having to go through all the things Jacob had to, we have it easy compared to him. Really easy. I was impressed how he made enough money to go to school in such a poor country. All in all this was a decent book, wasn't the best but i ended up not hating it so thats a win. And he did end up going to school like his mom wanted, to bad she couldn't see him succeed.

  1. Yes I completely agree with your blog the ending seemed terrible to me too and I was thoroughly disappointed in Jacob for leaving Oscar and Willy behind. I too was also impressed with how he made so much money in so little time in such a poor country. However I was disappointed in the ending for another reason, and that was that it felt unfinished to me. It felt unfinished to me because it seemed like nothing in Jacobs life was easy and that he would never find anyone in his family again and than he suddenly finds his Uncle Daniel and can go to school and the book ends. If it wasn't based off of a true story I would think that the author just got lazy and made up a bad ending that was easy to write. Have a good day LS5.9

  2. I completely agree that the ending was not the best, it seemed rushed and seemed like the author just wanted to get the book finished. I agree also with how Jacob has constantly been having people leave his life. He felt like he was left along and just for school he left the last two people he knew, what just so they could feel it too. I would say Jacob was either jealous of Majok or he was too selfish to care about his only friends.
    Merry Christmas LS5.9

  3. The ending was not what I thought I agree with every one because Jacob had friends but every time he needed some one his friends were there but at the end of the book Jacob got up one night and left his friends. Jacobs mother wanted him to go to school and that is what Jacob did. When Jacob and his friends were playing seek and find Jacob hid in a hole in the ground. I thought that Jacob would hide in the hole during the war.

  4. So interesting to read young readers' comments. If only they knew how many hundreds of times I rewrote those final chapters... Not rushed at all, and the book took over five years to complete. And sadly, real life often doesn't have happily-ever-after endings:)
