War Never Changes

In the book a Hare In The Elephants Trunk we get to look through the lens of Jacob Deng a boy growing up as a refugee. Jacob is fleeing the Sudanese civil war and what sounds like an attempted Genocide on his people. This Conflict is significant as it is the reason for the entire crisis and it sounds eerily similar to what is going on today in Iraq, Syria and the Kurdish lands in both Iraq and Turkey. Nothing has changed since Jacob was walking into Kenya in may 1992(p173) and around the world refugee crisis are still  major problem. Today children are still walking through perilous conditions in the Middle East and Africa just so they can get scraps to eat and get a little bit of security. Today just as 23 years earlier Militant groups such as ISIS wage  terrible campaigns to remove people from their homes and land and destroy those "Undesirable". The conflict and terrible brutality that Jacob and millions of other boys have faced are brutal and this conflict in history and the ones today prove theme that learning and education are the only way to peace. This proves that Matthew the teacher, Mathew the elder, Monyroor and Jacobs Mama are right and that learning and education is the only way to solve these problems. If everyone in Sudan went to school and had a good education they could take about and negotiate about their problems with words not guns. Jacob needs to listen to the guidance and become educated and help other boys get educated as time and history have proven that war does not solve problems it just creates more problems for the future.
